Sia – Chandelier

Yay! One of my favourite Aussie imports, Sia, returns to the music spotlight with her sixth studio album, titled 1000 Forms of Fear and her reggae/electropop inspired single, “Chandelier.” Those of you may remember her as the pop sensation who took the world by storm with her single, “Titanium” with David Guetta in 2011. But, what you probably don’t know is that she has written numerous hit songs for many other pop/r&b singers from the likes of Beyonce (“Pretty Hurts”) to Rihanna (“Diamonds”). Adding that to her resume as well as having uniqueness to her music, Sia is a woman to be reckoned with.

Sia – Chandelier

I can’t help but feel this song totally goes against pop lyrics of today; instead of glorifying drinking and partying, this perfectly describes someone on a downward spiral of alcoholic abuse and depression. The girl in the song is “holding on for dear life,” but the addiction to drinking keeps her in a false sense of security. Showing that even Sia herself can be vulnerable in her lyrics makes this song more relatable to the listener. I could also be dissecting the lyrics too literally for maybe what Sia is trying to convey but, I guess that can be up to the listener to decide what she is trying to express in her thoughts. However, what I do know is that “Chandelier” rivals songs that Sia herself has composed for pop diva’s and is a summer favourite that should not be missed by anyone.

If I’ve totally put you in a funk, I’m so sorry lol I’ll make it up to you with the first Sia I ever heard, BEHOLD!
