Nicki Minaj returns to the game with a new single “Pills N Potions” off of her forthcoming album The Pink Print. What I love about this song, is the vulnerable and honest side to Nicki we’ve hardly seen from her past songs. Able to balance the line between pop, r&b, and hip-hop, Nicki brings an introspective look into the emotion of love through her lyrics and use of drugs as a metaphor for addiction. Her vocals sound great and demonstrate that she can have an edge to her while also being “exposed.” Of course, the comparison of love to drugs is nothing new but, the subtle lyrics of the harm toxic love can do to you and the realization of the effects through her rhymes is compelling.
