Miss Ramdini ~ Favourite Video Game Music Playlist ~

If you don’t know me, you probably don’t know that I’ve been an avid video gamer since I was 5. From Super Mario to Legend of Zelda to Final Fantasy, I’ve been interested in the aspect of music produced in video games. I think it’s a very important feature of any video game to have a good soundtrack and allow gamers  to immerse themselves into that world. Music can set the tone for a game whether it’s a horror game set in a world of zombies and peril or a just a simple field to roam around through and relax. Basically, music is used to convey emotions to players whether they realize it or not. With that said, please allow me to introduce some of my favourite video game music I’ve grown up with as well as new music you may not have heard! ENJOY!

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception –  Nate’s Theme

Had to start off strong and what better way than with Nathan Drake! Uncharted 3 was actually the first game in the series I played and I loved it! Nate’s Theme is captivating. gripping, and gives me shivers every time I listen to it as corny as that sounds lol Can’t wait for Uncharted 4 to be released!

Kingdom Hearts – Hikari (Orchestra)

Kingdom Hearts was the whole reason I decided to movie from Nintendo to Playstation. The fact that it uses Final Fantasy and Disney characters peaked my interest and I’m so glad it works! This brings back so much memories and the game that made Mickey such a badass. The amount of emotion portrayed in this music is seriously magical. I would love to see The Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra live if they ever came to my city!

Mass Effect 2 – Suicide Mission

It’s funny, when I listen to this, I automatically think this could be a song in Doctor Who and I love it! This epic song playing with the actual suicide mission is probably one of the top experiences with any video game I’ve played!

The Last of Us – Main Theme

Another Naughty Dog game! I’m still currently playing this game but, what I love about the whole soundtrack is that it’s different from any zombie game in the fact that it’s more poignant to the sense that their may not be any hope for humanity. To make music that fits with a game like this must have been difficult to do.

God of War 3 – Overture – Main Theme

OH MY GOOOOOD! The whole series of soundtracks for God of War are amazing! When I listen to this, I can actually see the whole opening they used in my head. One of my favourite video games (1,2, and 3) Great writing, best cut scenes and game play I’ve played. In my opinion, this is the most solid and consistent soundtrack of any video game I’ve experience. ALL MUST PLAY!!

Final Fantasy VIII – Liberi Fatali

Nobuo Uematsu is one of a kind. One of the best final fantasy themes, in my opinion and I might be one of the few that actually like this better than “One-Winged Angel.” Who doesn’t love latin mixed with choral orchestra??

Mega Man 3 (NES) Soundtrack

This was my first Mega-Man game and I feel like I played the levels just to hear the next song on each level. Omg, even the opening where you pick you have to select the stage is fantastic! Awesome music for an 8-bit game. I think Needle Man and Hard Man are my favourite soundtracks!

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest – Soundtrack

I think this game is my favourite on the SNES! This is my childhood right here – couldn’t wait to get home from school just to beat the game. I don’t even have a favourite soundtrack to this because every song is amazing! Okay wait, I lied, “Hot-Head Bop” is my favourite LOL Just listening to this soundtrack makes me want to play it right now.

Shadow of the Colossus: The Opened Way

Shadow of Colossus is truly one of the best games, it’s so unique for it’s time and truthfully, it’s one of the hardest games I’ve played. Figuring out the game mechanics was a bit tricky but, once you got the hang of it, it was a great experience. This will always be the most epic boss battle music or me. The game itself has has so much style and is really a work of art. Another feat for Shadow of Colossus was it proved that you don’t need over the top style set-pieces to make a game feel epic!

Super Smash Bros Brawl – Main Theme

Haha I think I would be excommunicated from my friends if I didn’t have this on my list. Brings back memories of “smashing” in the basement. We could sit for hours playing and not get tired. LINK WILL PREVAIL!!

Dark Cloud 2 – Never ending Adventure

Such a great unappreciated game. I remember I had asked for Dragonball Z:Boudakai 2 for my birthday and my mom bought me this instead. I was so mad at her but, I decided to check the game out anyway to see what it was about and I’m so glad I did so, thanks mom! Next to The Legend of Zelda franchise, this soundtrack and storyline was so amazing; so much detail! Loved this song and game!

Batman Arkham City Soundtrack – Main Theme

I hope I’m not the only one that watched the entire main loading screen just to listen to this theme?. The violins that come in at 1:55 as well as the choral bits make the song! This sounds like something that Hans Zimmer would compose. This theme sums up everything that is Batman!

Killer Instinct – Full Soundtrack

Omg just listening to the main screen gives me nostalgia. My favourite characters were Spinal, Orchid, and Jago and I won’t even lie, I use some pretty cheap shots with Spinal but, I needed to hear the words, ULTRAAAAAAAAA ULTRAAAAAAAA!!

Kingdom Hearts II: Passion Orchestra Instrumental Version

YUP! I love Kingdom Hearts that much that it gets another shout out here! I think one thing Kingdom Hearts fans can agree on is the music. Every song is compelling and passionate. If there is a person who doesn’t like Kingdom Hearts music…I must end you 😐 SORRAY!

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time – Gerudo Valley

Bet you were waiting for a Zelda song to pop up on my list? WELL HERE IT IS! Gerudo Valley is definitely one of my favourite songs from Orcarina along with Song of Storms. I can remember the first time I entered Gerudo Valley and was like “WHOA, Spanish music?? I want more!” and I would ride around the area just to listen to the theme. I understand how Ganondorf could rise to power with such epic music in his city. Ignorant people who only believe video games to be violent should listen to this and realize that video games are bring people from different cultures together and create superb music.

Did I mention one of your favourite video game songs or do you have your own personal favourite? Mention it below!

These are all so epic. I literally can’t decide between Smash Bros, Liberi Fatali or Gerudo valley.
I wonder how many video game mashups songs there are?

  • Great list! If I had to contribute to the list. I would definitely add F-Zero Mute City and the Medal of Honor Main Theme song.
