HAIM ~ California Loooove

It’s always refreshing to hear new bands or artists come out of seemingly nowhere to produce music that makes you want to bust a move or act a fool; HAIM has become one of those rare entities that have smeagled (yes Smeagle) their way into my heart.

Three sisters, one of which looks eerily like Whitney Port from The Hills, out of Los Angeles, California form this amalgamated band bringing that chilled out, west coast vibe with their long wavy hair, sunnies, and infectious beats. I’ve only heard 3 of their songs off of their latest EP and I’m already hooked!

The first song, “Forever” is one of the best pop/rock songs I’ve heard in a while and that’s saying a lot considering I’m an avid critic on, well, everything. Yes, I’m an Alpha Nerd, look it up! Now I’ve gotten side-tracked, LOOK WHAT YOU DID! Getting back to HAIM’s awesomeness, right off the bat I get a subdued 80’s sounding reaction from this song and amazingly, they make it sound modern –think Pat Benatar meets Tegan and Sarah. Actually, the guitar in this reminds me of “Wanna be Starting Somethin” by the man in the mirror himself, Michael Jackson which means this catchy beat will be stuck in your head for years to come. I might be exaggerating but it will be stuck in my head for a good while, I tend to overkill songs sometimes *coughgladyoucamecough*

I guess the point I’m trying to make is that their range of style is so diverse that they can probably keep up with the times seeing as they like to borrow elements from each decade to create a girl band that knows who they are and not get caught up in all the commercialized bubble-gum pop songs out right now. I’m not sure if that was a run-on sentence but as long the grammar police don’t see, I’m sure I’ll be fine.

AND NOW, if you’re still reading and think this was sufficient for you, I’ll be posting more bands and artists in the future that haven’t been “discovered” yet—that’s right, I discover songs and this blog shall be proof that you heard it first from Miss Ramdini. But for now, check out “Forever” and more of HAIM’S songs to come; they’re definitely a band to be reckoned with.

If you say the word then I’ll say goodbye 😉
