Fitz and The Tantrums – Out Of My League

An impressive fusion of indie pop with soul undertones is how I would describe the Los Angeles based band, Fitz and The Tantrums. With two albums under their belts as well as having their songs played in well known television shows such as The Vampire Diaries and Criminal Minds, Fitz and The Tantrums have expanded their sound in hopes of touching a new fan base. Filled with an artistic vision, Fitz & The Tantrums has become a chart-topping band unlike any other today. They have even caught the attention of Maroon 5 where they were invited to tour with them on their Back to School Tour in 2009. With all of this success, they still maintain their soulfulness and honesty to themselves.

I decided to review the first song I’ve heard from them off of their More Than Just a Dream album titled, “Out of My League” because it makes me love that the retro 80’s sound is coming back again. It’s a little more new wave added to the mix than what they have done before, but it works so well. They also have a distinct California sound that promotes an image of being chill and laid-back (hope that makes sense lol). By finding clever ways to develop their own unique sound, Fitz and The Tantrums have managed to break away from every other band out there. What this band has done, is create honest music, moving melodies, and harmonic balance from verse to chorus.

If you’ve enjoyed this song, please have a look below at another song by them, “The Walker,” which you’ve probably heard before – enjoy!
