The Saturdays – What About Us
Finally, my girls from the U.K. are branching out into the North American market! For those that don’t know, The Saturdays are a 5 member British-Irish girl group who have released 3 albums and 14 singles in the UK. Also of late, they are staring in their own reality show on E! titled “Chasing The Saturdays. I’ve been a fan of them since I first heard their cover of Depeche Mode’s “Just Can’t Get Enough.” Signing onto Island Def Jam records, The Saturdays are now trying to take over North America with the release of their new single, “What About Us.”
“What About Us” is a an electro-pop infused dance anthem with a little hint of Dancehall elements. When I first heard the song on BBC radio 1, I didn’t even realize it was my girls singing; it’s a bit of a departure from their earlier work but still addictive nonetheless. I believe they are trying to tap into the new genre of electro music on the radio but they are still able to maintain that fun-loving attitude I’ve come to love. This is a perfect summer song and I for one am ready for summer to begin so this is a great way to bring in that warm feeling with the Caribbean influenced vibe. As well, this is the first single from them to reach number one on the music charts so congrats ladies! I wish them all the best in breaking into our market!
