Cage the Elephant – Come a Little Closer

This will be the last blog post I do before Miss H and I go for a short trip to Cali – I know you will miss us…WILL YOU >:(??

Lol anyway, this week, I wanted to review Cage the Elephant’s single “Come a Little Closer.” If you don’t know who this awesome band is, I’m sure you must have at least heard a few of their songs such as “Shake me Down” and “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked.” If not, you should know that they are a 5 piece band that formed in 2006 and have recently put out their third album titled Melophobia. From this album, I can tell that they have a unique mix of psychedelic and alternative rock with each song and “Come a Little Closer” was one of the stand outs which is why I’m reviewing it today.

I’m not sure if I’m the only one that thinks this but, at the very beginning of the song, the lead vocalist, Matthew Shultz, kind of sounds like Damon Albarn from the Gorillaz. On a less random note, lyrically, I love that they can relate to anyone who listens to their songs. With each album they put out, they mature and get even better. The one word I would describe this song is “haunting.” I would actually love to see them live because from what I can tell in their videos, they are perform effortlessly and have a passion for what they sing about.

Check out the official video for “Come a Little Closer” as well as “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked” which was featured in the first Borderlands video!
